Read through Frequently Asked Questions to get Flash games, Java games, and Shockwave games to work since they are no longer supported by major browers. You can also learn why the Andkon Arcade stopped updates, how you can still (sort of) get Andkon Arcade t-shirts, read the shortest privacy policy ever, and ask questions directly.

Starting in January 2021, Flash will no longer work. Flash versions after June 2020 (32.0.0.387 and higher) have included a timer that will disable Flash on January 12, 2021. Furthermore, most browsers like Chrome or Firefox will physically remove Flash in their next version updates in January anyways. The solution is simple: use a browser that does not take out Flash with an older version of Flash without the disabling timer.

Before you begin to take the steps below to get Flash working again, make sure:

  1. You have permission to install programs on the computer you're using.
  2. You understand the inherent risks that using out-of-date software entails. You can decrease that risk by using antivirus software like the free Avast.
  3. You have Windows 7/8.1/10.

There are two easy solutions. The 'SECURITY CONSCIOUS WALKTHROUGH' shows where these files come from. Please read it all.

DESKTOP/LAPTOP SOLUTION

  1. Download and install the Pale Moon browser (32-bit). [IMAGE]
  2. Remove Adobe Flash Player NPAPI 32 if higher than 32.0.0.371. [IMAGE]
  3. Download and install the last version of Flash (32.0.0.371) without the disabling timer. Feel free to select 'Never check for updates' during the installation process. Restart Pale Moon. [IMAGE]

PORTABLE SOLUTION

  1. Download the Pale Moon browser (portable, 64-bit). [IMAGE]
  2. Open to extract to a USB stick. Browse/select [...] the USB drive. Name the folder 'palemoon' so that the extracted contents are in one folder. So something like F:palemoon or G:palemoon depending on what letter your USB drive uses. [IMAGE]
  3. Download the flash file NPSWF64_32_0_0_371.dll and move it into USB:/palemoon/Lib/Mozilla/Plugins. (Flash 32.0.0.371 is the last version to not include a timer that disables Flash.) [IMAGE]
  4. Remove Adobe Flash Player NPAPI 32 if higher than 32.0.0.371. (Flash defaults to the highest version installed.) [IMAGE]
  5. Open USB:/palemoon/Palemoon-Portable.exe [IMAGE]

SECURITY CONSCIOUS WALKTHROUGH

You may be worried about downloading random exe and dll files, even from your favorite Flash game site. That's understandable. Go through these steps to verify that they are legit:

  1. Pale Moon is an open source fork of Firefox that is still updated. It preserves the addon/extension system that Firefox used to have. More importantly, Pale Moon also preserves the plugin system for Flash, Shockwave, and Java. Visit palemoon.org for more information.
  2. Go to https://www.neowin.net/news/adobe-flash-player-3200371/ to find Neowin's page on the last version of Flash without the disabling timer.
  3. Hover over and copy the link for 'Download for Firefox, Safari, Opera: Adobe Flash Player 32.0.0.371': http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/32.0.0.371/install_flash_player.exe
  4. That's the official Adobe link though it's 404/Not Found now.
  5. Paste that Adobe link into archive.org's Wayback Machine.
  6. On archive.org's page for the Adobe link, select the 'May 23, 2020' version.
  7. Once you install that (remove Adobe Flash Player NPAPI 32 if higher than 32.0.0.371 first), go to C:WindowsSystem32MacromedFlash and copy NPSWF64_32_0_0_371.dll for the portable version.
  8. You can use Virus Total, Jotti, andKaspersky TIPto upload and scan individual files. If you have Avast or other antivirus install, you can right-click on a file and scan manually.

Technical notes, To-Do List:

  1. The 32-bit version of Pale Moon for desktop/laptop is necessary if you want to use Java, see below. (Most Windows is 64-bit but 32-bit programs are reverse compatible.)
  2. The 64-bit version of Pale Moon portable must be installed since NPSWF64_32_0_0_371.dll is not compatible with the 32-bit version of Pale Moon portable.
  3. BlueMaxima's Flashpoint is a webgame preservation project with more than 70,000 games saved (not just Flash and not just Andkon Arcade). While Flashpoint Ultimate is a massive 532GB when extracted, Flashpoint Infinity is just 2GB but needs an Internet connection to download games as you open them. Apart from the instructions above, it's the only solution that works well.
  4. Ruffle is a Flash Player emulator. It can either be installed server-side (like andkon.com) or individually as a browser addon/extension. Currently, it does not support a lot of the latest Flash games.
  5. The Internet Archive (archive.org) has a project to preserve Flash content.
  6. I have seen an Internet Archive (archive.org) download of BlueMaxima's archive for just the Andkon Arcade. I will have to test and verify that further.
  7. The free Puffin Web Browser for Android offers Flash support on the fly. Without an accurate mouse or a good keyboard, a lot of games may not be that playable but it's worth a try.
  8. The makers of Puffin also offer for Chrome-based browsers Flash emulation on the fly. It looks like this is a cost-prohibitive long-term solutions but they have provided a free two week trial for the Andkon Arcade.
  9. These instructions above apply to Windows 7/8.1/10. Mac/Safari/Apple or Linux, no clue. If you know of videos that have detailed walk-throughs for non-Windows OS, contact me below.

You may have noticed some pages (like the Quick Sand games) do not even have an empty box for where the game should be. They may be Java. To play Java games in your browser, follow the video and instructions below (Windows 7/8.1/10 only):

  1. Download Java (Windows Offline, NOT 64-bit) and install it. [IMAGE]
  2. Search for Configure Java to open the Java Control Panel.
  3. In the Java Control panel, find the Security tab. Check 'Enable Java content for browser...' and 'High' for security. Also, find the Exception Site List and click Edit Site List. In the Exception Site List popup, 'Add' to type in http://andkon.com and http://www.andkon.com individually. Click 'Add' again to finalize and click 'Continue,' if prompted. [IMAGE]
  4. Download and install the Pale Moon browser (32-bit). [IMAGE]
Java

Technical notes, To-Do List:

  1. Only the 32-bit version of Pale Moon allows the Java plugin which also must be 32-bit. (Most Windows is 64-bit but 32-bit programs are reverse compatible.)
  2. SeaMonkey 2.49.5 (September 4, 2019) is the last version of SeaMonkey to support the Java plugin. Only the 32-bit/Windows x86 (NOT Windows x64) version works with Java.
  3. Firefox ESR 52.9.0 (June 25, 2018) is the last version of Firefox to support the Java plugin. Only the 32-bit (win32) works with Java though the link is directly to that version.
  4. Internet Explorer continues to support Java... for now. If andkon.com does not show up, go to Tools (wheel icon, top-right near close button) -- Internet Options -- Security tab -- uncheck 'Enable Protected Mode.' (This mode automatically turns all http:// into https:// which http://andkon.com does not support.) If that still does not work, go back to Tools -- Internet Options -- Security tab -- Security level for this zone -- Custom level... -- Scripting -- Scripting of Java applets -- Enable. Close and restart Internet Explorer.

Safari on macOS: Please see Run Java in Unsafe Mode on Safari 11 or Enable Plugins in Safari on macOS. Safari 12 does not support Java or any other plugins anymore, except Flash.

MR-C has some interesting old Java games (including sand games). Be sure to add the domain https://web.archive.org to the Exception Site List.

Dan-Ball also has Java games but most are available as HTML5 anyways. Be sure to add the domain http://dan-ball.jp to the Exception Site List.

Shockwave is the third of the plugins that some games use. To play Shockwave games in your browser, follow the video and instructions below (Windows 7/8.1/10 only):

  1. Download Adobe Shockwave Player 12.3.4.205, the last version of Shockwave.
  2. Download and install the Pale Moon browser (32-bit).
  3. (Where does the Shockwave installer come from? Archive.org has the April 8, 2019 copy of the Shockwave Player download page. Use the 'Download MSI Installer' for Windows.)

If that does not work and you have Windows 10 with a newer Nvidia graphics driver, it may be the Shockwave 3D Bad Driver List Bug. See instructions on StackExchange.

Games: Driver's Ed,Panda Pang,Rich Racer,Stunt Bike Island,Panda Fishing.

Remember Candystand/Nabisco's arcade games like minigolf? Those were Shockwave. One Weakness has them all!

Casual games moved to mobile and Flash never made the transition out of personal computers. Though it licensed thousands of games, the Andkon Arcade never released any exclusive titles so there is nothing to submit to the app stores. If you think about it, the Andkon Arcade was the app store, except completely free!

Shirts are no longer available for sale. Feel free to use the logos from the old shirt shop page at custom merch sites.
